The chair of Prof Lewisch forms a unit within the Department of Criminal Law and Criminology with a special focus on business crime and criminal procedure; it is interdisciplinary and international.

Your personal sphere of influence:

As a PraeDoc assistant you will receive a comprehensive education in the discipline of criminal law (and if desired, adjacent fields of law), including the legal practice. As a member of the research team you are supposed, after a first instruction, to work in a self-responsible manner in the above indicated areas and to write your dissertation in this discipline. Furthermore in the occupational development you will perform the task of teaching as well. The contract duration at the time of employment is 4 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 4 years if the employer does not submit a declaration of non-extension within the first 12 months.

Your future tasks:

You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:

  •  Participation in research, teaching and administration
  •  Assistance in research projects / research studies / publications / presentations
  • We expect you to complete your dissertation agreement within 12-18 months.
  • Participation in teaching and independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
  • Supervision of students
  • Involvement in the organisation of meetings, conferences, symposia
  • Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration

Your profile: 

  • Completed diploma studies in the field of law
  • Excellent academic performance, particularly in criminal law and criminal procedure law, demonstrable through examination results (submission of transcripts and grades is essential)
  • Therefore, very good knowledge of Austrian criminal law and criminal procedure law
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Familiarity with university procedures
  • Proficiency in computer skills
  • Interest in or knowledge of economics is desirable
  • Excellent English language skills (C1)
  • You are a team player with high social/communicative competence
